The History of Long Reach Forklifts
Long reach Forklifts, or telehandlers, were first developed in the 1950s, when industrial users began to need greater height and reach in their operations. These forklifts were particularly valued in agriculture and construction. Early brands include the French Sambron, which was a forerunner in the market, followed by the famous JCB Loadall, which came onto the market in 1977 and combined a forklift loader with backhoe functionalities.
Telehandlers have evolved over time to incorporate newer features such as enhanced safety features and narrow aisle capabilities. Increasingly, the newest models are now incorporating cutting-edge technologies such as autonomous mobile robot parts (AMRs), automated guided vehicle technology (AGVs), operator assist programs, and telematics systems.
