Hyundai's History of Forklift Performance
Hyundai Material Handling got its start in South Korea right after World War II. It was founded in 1947 by Chung Ju-yung, who grew up as the son of a simple farmer.
The company kicked off as Hyundai Engineering and Construction, and the name “Hyundai” actually means “modernity.” From the beginning, they were focused on pushing innovation and efficiency, which altered the standard within the industry.
They started by building roads and bridges, but soon branched out into cars, ships, and larger machinery. This set the stage for them to venture into material handling. Things really picked up for their forklifts in the late ’90s when Hyundai Heavy Industries bought out the forklift side of the Halla Group in 1998. This happened during the Asian financial crisis, and it mixed Halla’s know-how with Hyundai’s solid engineering skills.
By 2000, they were rolling out forklifts in places like North America, known for their tooling to be built tough for reliability in busy warehouses, ports, and construction spots. What makes Hyundai stand out is how they combine the latest tech with real-world toughness. They’ve got electric models which save energy, diesel ones for heavier lifting, plus cool features like modern designs for operators, safety stability controls, and engines better suited for the environment, claiming they cut down on emissions yet keep things running smooth.
All this comes from years of experience in heavy equipment, so you get precise control mixed with serious power. Hyundai remains as a big player worldwide in forklifts and more. They’ve been on their own since splitting off in 2017, and in 2023, they rebranded to HD XITESOLUTION to focus on global solutions.
The original drive from 1947 is still going strong, making their forklifts a must-have for moving stuff around the world.
